14 new features at San Antonio airport making peak holiday travel easier

As the San Antonio International Airport prepares to send off and welcome an estimated 300,000 passengers over the next week, there are a few new features to the facility travelers should know about before embarking on the busiest flying period of the year.

Whether it’s been years or a few weeks since your last flight, the airport has added a list of changes that will likely be new to even its most-frequent guests.

Travelers will see improvements as soon as they enter the airport like more parking spaces as the airport has added more than 5,000 spots to its long-term garage. Transportation has also been simplified with the new Consolidated Rental Car Facility. The 1.8 million square foot addition gives travelers a one-stop shop for picking up and dropping off vehicles. The facility houses 14 rental companies to simplify the process and cuts out the shuttle transportation that was needed before.

The airport is also preparing to debut a new children’s area in Terminal A, where tiny travelers can stretch and play before their flights. A list of new dining concepts like Smoke Shack and Merit Coffee are also expected to open between December 2019 and the start of the new year.

Along with the new features, SAT is suggesting tips to make the flying process easier from Nov. 22 to Dec. 22, when the largest spike in travelers is expected. Travelers are encouraged to arrive at least two hours before boarding time and to be ready with an acceptable ID and boarding pass as they enter the TSA line.

Travelers can access know-before-you-go information, such as estimates on TSA wait times (if using Terminal A), flight status and parking availability on the SAT website.

Get up t0 speed on SAT updates and features to prepare for a seamless flying experience in the gallery above.
